Business Overview
45 years in the tech sector
I initially worked as a mobile products engineering manager for Motorola in their wireless data division, developing 1st generation public network mobile computing devices in the 1980s. In the 1990s I founded and ran 2 wireless tech companies, PCS Wireless (micro-cells, a precursor to WiFi networks) and Intrinsyc Software (IoT).
In the mid 2000s I helped build BC Advantage Funds as a board and investment committee member, and advised Quorum Fund in Toronto and Bessemer Venture Partners in NYC on tech transactions. In the later 2000s I was CEO of a mobile app analytics company, Mobidia, which was sold to App Annie in 2015, a Director of the BC Discovery Fund from 2017 until 2020, and a Partner/Managing Director of ScaleUP Ventures, a corporate Canada backed VC firm, from 2016 to 2019. I was Executive Chairman and then CEO of the Turnium Technology Group from 2019 to 2024. I have been a member of YPO since 2005 and a YPO Mentor from 2021 to 2024.
I was fortunate to have received various business awards over the years: BIV 40 under 40 CEOs, Deloitte Fast 50 (Canada), Deloitte Fast 500 (US & Canada), BC Business Tech 100, and National Post 27th Fastest Growing Tech Company in Canada.
Starting in the late 1990s I became an advisor to the BC Government and the TSX Venture Exchange, and held board positions with the Vancouver Enterprise Forum, Acetech, WinBC, DigiBC, and Wavefront.
I was an early board member/investor with: Social Venture Partners (co-creating thriving sustainable and just communities), Sierra Legal Defence Fund/Earth Justice (environmental legal advocacy), BC Science-World, and the Scientist in Residence Program (giving children early exposure to science and scientists) for Vancouver schools.
I retired February 2024.
